Dispatches From Quarantine: Summer

Is this the summer? The one where we let kids play outside all day again with the only guidance to come home when the streetlights are on?

The one where adults sit on the porch or in the driveway chatting to neighbours as they walk by?

The one where we all stop rushing, and realize summer’s beauty? A gorgeous pink, orange, and purple sunset sky with pebbled clouds.

The one where we have no choice but to stop and absorb what’s going on?

Is this the summer where we learn to talk about what really matters? Life, death, racism. What kind of world we really want for ourselves, and the next generation? Is this the summer where we listen to each other? Where we empathize?

Is this the summer where we appreciate those around us, and we tell them?

Is this the summer where it all changes? Or where it all changes back?
