There have been some honest, raw, tough, conversations going about race and sports the last couple of days on the shooting of Jacob Blake.
First the Raptors started it, with Fred VanVleet, and Norman Powell sharing some thoughts on the situation. Their coach Nick Nurse saying that he, and the team executives would support anything the players decided.
Rumours of a boycott began that night, with the Raptors and Celtics talking next steps. The Bucks beat them to it. Their game five against Orlando came Wednesday night, and was cancelled. The Magic were doing their warm-up while Bucks’ players refused to exit the locker room. The came out with this statement:
The NBA ended up cancelling three games Wednesday, and again yesterday. In place of the games panel discussions aired including analysts, and former players including Isiah Thomas spoke on ESPN about how the players are perceived in uniform, and outside it:
LA Clippers’ Coach Doc Rivers was emotional talking about it. Saying “We keep loving this country and this country does not love us back,”
Commentator, and former player Robert Horry talked about the shooting, and what it’s like as father to have to talk to a son about how to act around police:
In Canada, TSN Reporter Kayla Grey said that “What’s next”, is actually a question for society instead of the league.
